TORONTO TO VANCOUVER
All Aboard! Experience the romance of the rails and spectacular scenery
while relaxing in the comfort and elegance of restored 1950's art deco
surroundings on the Canadian.
There is something very special about taking the train in Canada. It was
the railway that linked this vast country together and the train is very
close to the essence of Canada.
Vancouver to Toronto or vice versa - with all of Canada's diversity in
between - this is the route of the classic Transcontinental train, the
Canadian, a handsome stainless steel re-creation of a great era of train
travel. Departing three times per week from Vancouver and Toronto, the
Canadian travels through the scenic northern lakelands of Ontario,
across the western prairies, through the dramatic Rocky Mountains and on
to the Pacific Coast.
Prices for this train journey start from £425 but we
would weave this into a more detailed itinerary with stopovers and to
include flight prices to make a memorable holiday.
This train journey is featured on our page labelled ‘Canada – Tailor
Made Trips’. Prices start from 13 days from £2,155.
Travelling across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver on the newly
refurbished Canadian will take you a comfortable three days or so and
encompasses nearly every type of scenery that the country has to offer.
Winnipeg is the gateway to the north and the land of the Polar Bear and
Hudson Bay and you could combine your rail journey with a 5 night Polar
Bear Watching Tour to Churchill, Manitoba and will get you into viewing
range before you know it.
The Canadian's main stops include Sudbury, Winnipeg, Saskatoon,
Edmonton, Jasper and Kamloops. Seats only are available in second
(economy) class while all bedroom and couchette accommodation is now in
the first class, which is the "Silver & Blue" section of the train,
which also includes all meals during the journey.
Between Sudbury Junction and Winnipeg, you can get off anywhere you
want, even where there is no scheduled stop! How? Simply by requesting a
‘special stop!’ This service is specially designed for outdoor
enthusiasts who wish to get off in a "wilder" environment.
ACCOMMODATION ON BOARD SILVER & BLUE SERVICE – WELCOME ON BOARD!
The "Canadian" offers you a superb standard of accommodation, service
and dining. The private-seating compartment by day converts to a double
bedroom for two, or single bedroom for one, or a double berth. Mingle in
the relaxing Mural Lounge, enjoy the privacy of your own room, or settle
back in stylish armchairs in the uniquely shaped Bullet Lounge, with its
wrap-around windows.
Find the ambience of the elegant Dining Car for an exquisite dinner.
Cocktails, a choice of fine wines, domestic and imported, arrive from
the curved 1950's style steward's bar. At every meal, the on-board chef
presents an enticing new menu. The "Silver & Blue" Class attendants take
a special pride in making your journey relaxed, smooth and memorable as
they know all about the regions being travelling through and will be
glad to share their knowledge and experiences.
The Park Car is a good place to spend most of the day, with three
separate salons each are worlds of their own. In the Dome, you'll
experience the sweeping views from the observation deck providing
indelible memories of the sheer breadth and beauty of the Canadian
landscape as the train slows down for photo opportunities.

COMFORT CLASS
Comfort Class lets you travel at a very reasonable cost between Ontario
and the Pacific coast on the Canadian. Sitting in your comfortable seat
in the coach car, you can stretch out your legs on the footrest, lean
back into the headrest and admire the scenery rolling by the window. At
night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket. Meals
are not included in Comfort Class prices. However, at all times, you can
access the Skyline car’s convenient take-away counter, as well as its
friendly café during peak season. In off-peak season, you can elect to
eat in the dining car, usually reserved for Silver & Blue class
passengers.
