DAR ES SALAAM - AN AUTHENTIC AFRICAN ADVENTURE

Dar es Salaam Park In July every year, the most luxurious train in the World, will depart from Cape Town on this epic safari through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania.

Rovos Rail has designed this safari for travellers who wish to re-live true adventure in complete luxury, comfort and security.

The one way 6 100km journey will take 13 days. Once there, guests have the option of visiting exotic Zanzibar, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Ngorongoro Crater and the wildlife paradise of the Serengeti. The Edwardian Safari will then depart Dar Es Salaam, again travelling southbound back to Cape Town.

NAMIBIA – AN EPIC JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY

Rovos Rail: Namibia trip In the month of May The Pride of Africa carries her passengers in style and comfort on a journey from Pretoria to Kimberley, centre of one of the world’s most famous diamond rushes. There’s an opportunity to visit the world’s largest man-made excavation, The Big Hole, and to savour the 1870’s atmosphere of the mine museum village. The railway line covers vistas of the arid Northern Cape as the train travels through Upington to the border into Namibia. There is time for an excursion to the Fish River Canyon – second only in size to the Grand Canyon and a truly spectacular sight.

The journey continues across the untamed beauty of the Kalahari Desert and onto Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. On the last morning the train passes through the Namib desert and into Swakopmund, a perfectly preserved nineteenth century German Hansa town set on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

CAPE TOWN – THE OLD KAROO PIONEERING TRAIL

Rovos Rail: Capetown Discover infinite variety from the mountains to the bustling urban heart of South Africa, and there’s no finer way than on the most popular 48 hour weekly journeys between Pretoria and Cape Town. One of the world's top destinations, Cape Town offers a blend of cosmopolitan city life, magnificent mountains and scenic winelands.

The twin cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg in Gauteng, form South Africa's economic heartland, and is the ideal departure point for the Lowveld's world-famous game reserves.

This 1600 kilometre journey follows an old pioneering trail carved out of the African bushveld, passing through the winelands and climbing up to the interior through the Hex River Valley. Highlights of the north and southbound routes include a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein, this authentic, perfectly preserved Victorian Village was a refreshment stop in the 1890’s.

A stop is also made in Kimberley, providing an opportunity to enjoy a visit to the Mine Museum and the worlds’ largest man-made excavation – the Big Hole.

DURBAN SAFARI – IN THE HEART OF THE AFRICAN BUSH

Herd of Elephants This special three-day safari between Pretoria and Durban departs during the summer months and includes game drives in two varied and unique game reserves.

The train departs Pretoria and slowly meanders eastwards through Highveld. It then descends the escarpment between Belfast and Waterval Onder, taking the train through what is surely the most spectacular sundowner scenery in South Africa.

Lion Awake in Malelane for breakfast as the train travels along the boundary of the world-famous Kruger Park. The safari continues towards Swaziland for an afternoon game drive in the Mkhaya Game Reserve.

Travel overnight to the Hluhluwe Game Reserve in Zululand, sanctuary of the endangered Black and White Rhino.

Enjoy an early morning game drive during which a large variety of game can be seen. The train departs mid morning and winds its way through KwaZulu Natal, to arrive in Durban by late afternoon where this scenic safari ends.

THE SCENIC BEAUTY OF THE GARDEN ROUTE

Garden Route This picturesque 550-kilometre rail journey runs between Cape Town and George, and then on to Khysna, a coastal jewel in the heart of the famous Garden Route. It is rated one of the most beautiful in the world.

The train travels through the Du Toits Kloof tunnel towards Worcester, where grapes are grown, and past brandy distilleries.

The KWV Brandy Distillery is visited on the George to Cape Town leg. On the Cape Town to George leg a stop is made here to sample the wines of a local wine estate. Then it is on towards the coast to George, a quiet inland town, founded in 1811 and named after King George III.
